Derrick Murphy’s wife, Shenavia, was born and raised in Greenville, Alabama. She attended the University of Alabama where she graduated from the School of Law. She is a licensed attorney. She is very active in Hunter Street Baptist Church where she serves in the high school ministry.

Derrick and Shenavia, moved to Hoover in 2005 in large part because of the education their children could obtain in the city schools.

Their oldest child, Galien, is a past graduate of Hoover High School involved in the engineering academy, and played running back. He was also a member of the band program, where he played alto saxphone during 6th through 9th grade.

Their daughter, Bailyn, , is a twelfth-grader, who loves mathematics, running track, and hunting.  Her longterm goal is to persuade a career in Biomedical Engineering. Their youngest son Asher-Robert is 12 years old and has a passion for basketball, track, and science.
